Centering Prayer
Tuesday evenings 7:00-9:00 PM

This weekly prayer support group, facilitated by two Countryside
members, and attended by an ecumenical group from a variety of
churches around Topeka, has been meeting for five years.
Centering prayer is a renewal of an ancient Christian prayer.
The form of the method is to consent to the presence and action
of the Holy Spirit in the stillness of our being for periods of twenty
minutes (or more), preferably twice each day.  The practice is
transformational, leading to a growing sense of God’s leading us
beyond anxiety into an inner stillness and peace, and outward
into compassion and service.  The support group reinforces the
individual practice of the method, and provides a forum for
sharing resources available from Contemplative Outreach, Ltd.,
the primary source for the method.  Robert DuBois, a contact
person (267-3111) from that organization, participates with the
support group, aiding the identification of enrichment information,
and activities that are conducted by other nearby groups.
The group participates in an annual United in Prayer Day,
conducted simultaneously in many countries worldwide and
numerous chapters and prayer groups in the United States on a
    day in March.
