| Our Journey of Hope Countryside United Methodist Church 3221 SW Burlingame Rd, Topeka Kansas Saturday, October 11, 2008 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (registration at 7:30 am) Look around you. Do you know any family who hasn’t been touched by cancer? Today, almost everyone knows someone with cancer – a family member, friend, coworker, neighbor … maybe even yourself. Ministry to cancer patients and their families is critical to their health, well being, support and recovery. We know this not only because Scripture makes it clear, but also because hundreds of scientific studies have proven that spirituality and faith play a major and crucial role in people’s physical health … faster recovery times from surgery, fewer hospital days, lower death rates, unexplainable healings. These are but a few of the documented benefits. Often, though, people don’t know what to say to someone with cancer, what will be helpful, what a person’s really going through who’s received that diagnosis. They don’t really understand what cancer is, the causes, the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual battles a person is undergoing nor what is needed to impart hope and encouragement at this time. Training is available through the Pastoral Care department of Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). In one eight-hour session, you’ll learn all of the above plus: • Why faith is so important to health; why it’s important to reach out to cancer patients and their families • What cancer is and isn’t • Dos and don’ts of hospital visitation • Prevention information • Cancer-fighter recipes and more Call Elaine Shutt at 785-266-7541 or Elaine@countrysideumc.org today and register to attend. You’ll gain valuable preparation for ministry to others or to someone in your own family. Registration deadline is September 9. Presented at NO CHARGE! by the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. |
